Doris Jean (Reeves) Apple
Doris Jean was born on April 9th, 1932 to Delbert and Dorothy Reeves in Greenfield, Indiana. She passed away on September 28th, 2014.
Doris graduated from Greenfield High School in 1950 and married her high school sweetheart, Elden Apple on June 28th, 1952. In the early years of their marriage while Elden was in the Navy they lived in a number of locations before returning to Greenfield in 1959 to raise their three sons.
Family was always most important to Doris. Holidays anniversaries, birthdays and the famous ‘Riley Days Cookouts’ were annual events anticipated by the entire family and created lasting memories for all. Mamaw Apple’s mac ‘n cheese was a family favorite requested for all events.
While being a wife, mother, friend and homemaker was her main focus, Doris also periodically worked as a bookkeeper, most notably at Bradley Hall Furniture in downtown Greenfield.
Doris was also an animal lover. She had an assortment of cats and dogs over the years and had a ready lap for all the grandkids dogs when they came to visit. Doris also enjoyed finding a ‘treasure’ at a garage sale, collecting antiques and uniques, and spent the last 20 years wintering with Elden in Cape Coral, Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Elden, brother, Harvey Reeves (Janet) sister Joan Miller (Virgil deceased) and three sons. Greg (Julie), Doug (Brenda), Brian (Debbie), as well as 5 granddaughters, Allison Cosat (Ross), Mallery Neff ( Tim), Amy Higgins (John), Melyn Brandt ( Nathan), Adrienne Apple, one great granddaughter Harper Joy Cosat, and many nieces and nephews.
A public visitation for Doris will be Wednesday, October 1 from 4-7PM at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 2 at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Doris’s honor to Hancock Regional Hospital, Designate: Hospice, 801 N State St, Greenfield, IN 46140.
