William “Bill” E. Tumilty

William “Bill” E. Tumilty, 78, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born on Dec. 2, 1935, in Rush County, as the son of Harry and Lena (Huegel) Tumilty.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1952-1956.  He married Deloris M. (Loveall) Tumilty on Sept. 29, 1954, in Waukegan, Ill.

He previously worked as the Supervisor of the Street Department in the City of Ocala, Fla., for many years before retiring in 1998. He owned the Carthage Barber Shop for over 20 years and was also a farmer. Mr. Tumilty was a member of the Center Church in Rush County and American Legion Post 152 in Knightstown. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, and watching Western movies.

Bill is survived by his children, Delena (Jeff) Davis of Shirley, David W. Tumilty of Carthage, William J. (Mary) Tumilty of Kennard, and Patricia Jones of Noblesville; siblings, Pat Sipes of Knightstown, Norma J. Jones of Anderson, Jerry D. (Jenny) Tumilty of Greenfield and Vicki (Joe) Herrmann of Glenwood; longtime companion and fiancé, Martha Simonsen of Greenfield; eight grandchildren, Kelli, Malissa, Traci, Daniel, Michael, Chase, Courtney, and Bryce; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lena (Huegel) Tumilty; wife, Deloris M. (Loveall) Tumilty; sisters, Mary Jo Dickson and Betty Ridout; and brother, Harry Tumilty Jr.

A private service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be sent the Hancock Regional Hospice, 801 N. State Street, Greenfield, IN 46140.
