Deborah J. Vaughn, of McCordsville, passed away Wednesday Sept. 17, 2014, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She was born on March 12, 1952, in Anderson to the late Edgar L. and Vonda E. (Whiteside) Bainter.
Debbie was a 1970 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and retired from American United Life in 2011 after 41 years of service. She was an active member of Fortville Christian Church, serving at the Welcome Desk, as a fellowship meal and food pantry volunteer, and as secretary of the Women’s Group. She also volunteered for the Greenfield Soup Kitchen, the Mini-Marathon, Bastille Day and was a representative for the Employees Association.
She is survived by her husband, Carmel Vaughn, whom she married on Sept. 4, 1971; sisters, Linda (James) Bainter Yager, Janice Bainter Threet, and Judy (Carl) Bainter Hickle; brother Donald G. (Karen) Whiteside; cousins, Vicki J. (John) Sharp and Barbara J. (Byford) Borgman; brother-in-law, Carl Vaughn; sister-in-law, Mildred Vaughn; aunts, Katherine Whiteside Allen, Ruth Emma Whiteside and Alberta Whiteside Gardner; and uncle, Charles Whiteside.
She was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Robert H. Threet.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 21, 2014, at Fortville Christian Church, 9450 N. 200 West. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday Sept. 22, 2014, at the church. Burial will follow at the Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
