Freda S. Rawlins, 91, formerly of Knightstown passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Country Home Health Care in Charlottesville. She was born Aug. 7, 1923, in Ellettsville to the late Harry and Muriel (May) Smith.
Freda retired from Western Electric, Indianapolis in 1986 after 27 years of service. She was a member of the Kennard Brotherhood and Sisterhood. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing and playing Euchre.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Rawlins; seven children, Nancy (Lewis) Thompson of Spiceland, John Richard (Sheila) Rawlins of Charlottesville, Michael L. (Parnie) Rawlins of Knightstown, Margaret Rawlins (Karen Harbaugh) of Wilmington, N.C., Ronald (Charlotte) Rawlins of Atwood, Ill., Chris (Bruce) Carmichael of Knightstown and Teresa Brinson of Maryville, Tenn.; twelve grandchildren, Rob (Tina) Thompson, Melinda (Terry) Broyles, Kim (Rick) Hoebel, Scott (Amy), Brian (Stephanie), Shannon (Jennifer), Ben (Sara) and Jeff Rawlins, Dawn Kauffman, Casey (Stephanie) Carmichael, Cara (Ryan) Williams, and Scott Brinson; twenty one great-grandchildren, Morgan, Ashley, Breanne, Britney, Terrie, Quentin, Aurora, Booker, Maya, Aaron, Austin, Brandon, Payton, Anna May, Nate, Chloe, Warren, Dustin, Dean and one on the way; also a great-great-grandson, due in October; three brothers, Norman (Deanna) Smith of Oregon, Bob (Judy) Smith of Colorado and George Smith of Indianapolis; a sister, Peg McClary of Ellettsville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by six brothers, Walter, William, Ralph, Guy “Hap”, Maurice and John “Short” Smith; two sisters, Faye Lewis and Bertha Baker.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the funeral home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Jerome Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery, Spiceland.
