William (Bill) H. Parker, 90, passed away on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014. Bill was born on May 30, 1924, to Charles F Parker & Fern (Arthur) Parker in Indianapolis.
In 1947, Bill married JoAnn Adams who passed away in 1999.
He retired as a Federal government employee at Fort Harrison and has been a resident of the Greenfield area for over 25 years. Mr. Parker graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1942 and then entered the Army in April 1943. He served in the United Kingdom and the European Theatre of Operations through the end of World War 2. He was a part of the 437th Ordinance Motor Vehicle Assembly group that assembled many of the vehicles that were used in the D-Day invasion at Normandy and later the support of Patton’s campaign through Europe.
During his younger years Bill was an accomplished bowler, and an avid hunter and fisherman. As his family extended he especially enjoyed family salmon fishing trips in Michigan.
Bill is survived by a sister, Betty Parker; and by three children, Judy (Rick) Walker, Audrey (Kevin) Sullivan, and William L (Brenda) Parker. All are from the Greenfield area. Bill has 6 grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Kinnaman, Sara (Josh) Houston, Mark (Amy) Sullivan, Chris, Alex and Erin Parker. He also has 7 great grandchildren, Conner, Bryce and Josie Kinnaman, Jorja and Sam Houston, Nick and Leah Sullivan.
Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers Jack and Joe.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at 12 p.m. also at the mortuary. Msgr. William Stumpf will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with military rites presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
