Edward A. Strauss,70, of New Palestine, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Franciscan St. Francis Health. He was born on July 15, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio as the son of Edward Lewis and Sophie (Jersan) Strauss. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1961. He married Patricia (Pyle) on Sept. 18, 1965, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He worked for CSX as Director of Train Operations and Superintendent for many years before retiring in 2000, when he went to work consulting for railroads (QEM and E.A. Strauss and Associates). Mr. Strauss was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, FOP, Superintendent Short Line Association member, Studebaker Club, ARC where he was on the board of directors and Saturday morning breakfast club.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Pyle) Strauss of New Palestine; daughters, Lori (Brian) Gorton of Houston, TX, Kim Dierolf of Hernando, MS and Sally (Brian) Barr of Winfield, WV; sister, Mary Jean (John) Manno of Mentor, OH; and eight grandchildren, Michelle Gorton, Matthew Gorton, Madison Gorton, Kyle Dierolf, Corey Dierolf, Joey Barr, Emily Barr and Charlie Barr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step father, Victor Melle.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46219 with viewing one hour prior to the mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
