Robert A. “Old Sharecropper” Petty, 68, of Fortville, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at IU Med Center – Indianapolis. He was born on July 7, 1945, in Fortville as the son of Burrel A. and Pauline (Barley) Petty.  He graduated from Vernon Township High School in 1963.

He was a grain farmer all his life in Hancock, Shelby, Rush and Hamilton Counties. Mr. Petty was a member of the Fortville Masonic Lodge #207 and attended Fortville Christian Church. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and loved all sports.

Robert is survived by his children, Natalie (Mark) Huber of Greenfield and Curtis A. (Letitia) Petty of Atlanta, GA; children’s mother, Janice Slunaker of McCordsville; Izetta (Isley) Justus, companion for 25 years; siblings, Joanne (Ned) Brown of Indianapolis, Jerry (Linda) Petty of Rushville, Jim (Annetta) Petty of Fortville; and five grandchildren, Randall, Darcie, Jarrett, Hannah and Quinn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burrel A. and Pauline (Barley) Petty; and brother, Glen Petty.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 124 E. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, also at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Fortville Christian Church Building Fund, 9450 N. 200 W., Fortville, IN 46040 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
