Rita K (Brummett) Roesener, 74, of New Palestine, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at her home. She was born on May 20, 1940, in Martinsville, as the daughter of Alvin and Ruth (Quakenbush) Brummett. She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1958. She married Melvin H. Roesener on July 9, 1961, in Cumberland.
Rita worked as a Library Assistant for New Palestine Elementary for 18 years before retiring. She was a member of Brookville Road Community Church. Rita loved to paint, she taught art lessons in her home for many years; much of her artwork can be found in her church, as well as many public buildings and private homes in Hancock County.
She is survived by her husband, Mel Roesener of New Palestine; sons, Chandler S. Roesener of Greenfield and Garvin T. Roesener of New Palestine; sisters, Elizabeth Ann Peterson of Indianapolis, Mary Catherine Wright of Decatur, Alabama; half sister, Sheila May Lacer; stepbrother, David Ferran; and stepsisters, Cynthia Manning and Geneva Fleener.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Ruth Brummett; infant sister; stepmother, Florence Brummett; and stepbrother, Steve Ferran.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Brookville Road Community Church, 7480 U.S. 52, New Palestine, IN 46163. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. Pastor Hubert Nolen will be officiating. Burial will take place at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.
