Helen J. (Brown) Dean, 88, of Fortville, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born on July 9, 1925, in Fortville, as the daughter of John and Flora (Lowe) Brown.
Helen married Robert E. Dean in 1947. She was a member of Fortville Christian Church. She spent the most time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Tony (Diana) Hayse of Greenfield; brother, Quitman Brown of Alexandria, Ind.; five grandchildren, Crystal Clouse, Dawn Brawner, Stacy Shaw, Jody Turner-Bruce and Jeffrey A. Hayse; eight great-grandchildren, Melissa Adelson, Cristina Shaw, Olivia Hayse, Ethan Hayse, Brent Turner Jr., Evan Brawner, Noah & Gabrielle Bruce; one great great-granddaughter, Bentlee Turner and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Dean; parents, John and Flora (Lowe) Brown; daughters, Paula S. Slinkard and Deana M. Dean; brothers, Orville, Elmer, Herbert, Willard (Wid), Harry E. Brown and Forest E. Brown; and twin sister, Florence P. Evans.
Visitation was 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 124 E. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m Friday, May 30, 2014, also at the mortuary. Pastor Jonathan Manship officiated. Burial followed at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.
