Helen W. (Spegal) Shadley, 94, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 10, 1920, in Hancock County as the daughter of Hervey and Jenny (Walker) Spegal.
Helen was a graduate of Eden High School. She was married for 51 years to Ralph T. Shadley, who preceded her in death in 2006. Helen retired from Morris Plan in 1970. She enjoyed watching basketball games, Lawrence Welk, and solving crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Judy (John) Hunt of Carthage, Janet (Doug) Fleming of Greenfield, Diane Everton of Greenwood, and Jim (Nancy) Moore of Sullivan, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; son Jimmy Joe Shadley; grandson, Jay Fleming; three brothers and six sisters.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, also at the mortuary. Pastor Steve Bradley will be officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
