Jane (Gray) Eakin, 87, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Hancock Regional Hospice in Greenfield. She was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Indianapolis, to the late Ralph and Ruth (McIlvaine) Gray and graduated from Greenfield Central High School before attending Purdue University.

She worked for Eli Lilly, International Harvester and was a dairy farmer before working for the Greenfield Daily Reporter later in life. She attended Carthage Friends Church, was a member of the Mile Square Gang quilters and enjoyed Indian culture and reading non-fiction literature.

Jane is survived by her children, Diane (Fred Mayberry) Eakin Janot of Mohawk, Kevin (Charlotte) Eakin of Carthage and Denise Eakin (Bryan) Westhoff of North Pole, Alaska; grandchildren, Basil K. Eakin, Danette Bell, Inga-lill, Birgitta and Urika Karlsson and John Bocephus Phillips and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil H. “Babe” Eakin in 1965.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to Noon on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. A graveside service will immediately follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
