Delores Ann (Hewitt) Basey, age 79, of Fountaintown, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014, at Cypress Run in Morristown, Indiana. She was born on Feb. 22, 1935, in Fountaintown, the daughter of James J. and Norma R. (Whittington) Hewitt. Delores graduated from Morristown High School in 1953.

She held a variety of positions and worked for many companies during her lifetime, including for H&R Block, Morris Plan Savings & Loan, and L.S. Ayres at Washington Square. Delores was also a real estate agent in Shelby County, a preschool teacher, a self-employed tax preparer, and the Secretary for the Shelby County Commissioners for 20 years.

Her memberships were many, as well, and included Order of the Eastern Star, Shelby County Extension Homemakers, Grover Museum Board of Directors, Red Hot Mommas Red Hat Society, Van Buren Jolly Members 4-H Leader, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Fountaintown Cemetery Association Treasurer, Rush County Fair Flower Judge, and Morristown United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed being a Master Gardener and a Diligent Digger.

Delores is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” E. Basey of Fountaintown; daughters, Shannon Jenks and husband, Philip, of Leesburg, Ind., Marva Kutz and husband, James, of Fountaintown, and Tamara Wilson, and husband David, of Gore, New Zealand; brother, Larry G. Hewitt; six granddaughters, Laurel, Tiffany, Victoria, Hope, Taylor, and Maxine; one grandson, Michael; and great-grandchildren, Anabelle, Jimmie, and Avery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Norma Hewitt.

Visitation will be from 4- 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, also at the mortuary, with calling one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jeri Barrett-Thomas will be officiating. Burial will follow at Fountaintown Cemetery in Fountaintown.
