James Anderson Griffin, 78, Lapel, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014. He was born on June 8, 1935, in St. Louis, to Floyd and Thelma (Spink) Griffin. He retired in 1973 as a Chief Gunners Mate from the Navy after 20 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Bettie (Byrd) Griffin; three children, Andy James (Starla) Griffin of Anderson, Gail Springer of Lapel, and Mark Griffin St. Petersburg, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Griffin and Thelma Griffin Dooley; his stepfather, Henry Dooley; a grandson and an aunt.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at Ford Street United Methodist Church in Lapel with Pastor Steve Holdzkom officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel where the Lapel American Legion will perform military graveside rites.
