William Robert “Mac” McCloskey, 78, of New Palestine, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, at Hancock Regional Hospice Unit. He was born on May 9, 1935, in New Albany, Ind., as the son of Francis Henry and Anna Alberta (Cheap) McCloskey.

He graduated from St. Xavier in Louisville, in 1953. Mr. McCloskey attended St. Joseph College. He served in the Marines. He married Beverly Jeanne (Radcliff) on June 20, 1959.

He worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years before retiring in 1993. Mr. McCloskey was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was also a former president of the board for the New Palestine Youth League.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly McCloskey; children, Kelley (Jim) Merritt, Patrick (Andrea) McCloskey, Karen (Joe) Petro, and Kathleen (Paul) Eckert; nine grandchildren, Abby, Jenny & Will Merritt, Elizabeth, Catherine, & Margaret McCloskey, Alex Petro, and Ethan & Owen Eckert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna McCloskey.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Msgr. William Stumpf will be officiating. A burial will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana at a later date.
