Ethel Marie Herbert, 73, of Fortville, passed away March 30, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born Dec. 4, 1940, in Switzerland County, Ind., the daughter of the late Leon VanTyle and Opal (Strautman) Field. She was raised by her mother and special stepfather, Jack Field, after her father was killed in WWII. She was the widow of Walter H. Herbert who passed away in 1999.
Ethel was a homemaker and grandma. She also worked many years at the Mt. Vernon School High School in the cafeteria. She was a 1958 graduate of Arlington High School, in Arlington, Ind. Ethel loved to read and crochet.
Her loving family includes two daughters, Teresa Goff and Doris Johnson both of Fortville; one son, Fred Herbert of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Hillary (Kenneth) Denney, Justin Goff & Darrin Johnson; one great -grand child, Nora Denney; three brothers, Wayne Field, Sam (Marita) Field & Larry VanTyle and several nieces & nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one infant child, Walter Herbert Jr.
Friends are invited to call 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday April 2, 2014, at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory 1600 S. SR 3 Rushville, IN 46173. Burial will follow at Rushville’s Calvary Cemetery.
