Mary M. McWhinney, 93, of Indianapolis, passed away March 9, 2014.  She was born April 18, 1920, in Richmond, to the late William R. and Bessie Roop King.

Mary was a graduate of Richmond High School. She married Loren E. McWhinney, Sept. of 1940, and was employed as a mail clerk for the U.S. Post Office for over 30 years.

Mary was a longtime member of Zion United Church of Christ and past member of St. John’s UCC, Cumberland, where she sang in the choir. She was a volunteer for The Little Red Door Cancer Agency and at Altenheim Community. Mary loved traveling and spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her children, John McWhinney (Lynne), Janet Blossom, Jim McWhinney (Deb), Long and his wife My Lien Nguyen; grandchildren, Doug (Haydee) and Mark McWhinney, Christina Lane (Bret), Sarah Eads (Tim), Chad McWhinney (Mary Kris), David H.K. and My Na Nguyen and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding Mary in her death is her husband, Loren McWhinney and granddaughter, April McWhinney.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 15, 2014, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Noon at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St.
