James F. Kleiman, 82, of McCordsville, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at his residence. He was born on Feb. 26, 1932, in Greenfield, as the son of Armin “Red” and Edna Blanche (McPherson) Kleiman.

He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1950. James attended Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn. He served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War from 1952 until 1955. He married Marilyn J. (Starr) on August 18, 1956 in Centerville, Ind.

He worked for Indiana State Police for 22 years, before retiring in 1977. Jim was a trooper in Rush County, Detective Sergeant and Lieutenant at Connersville Post, and Captain in charge of criminal investigations at ISP Headquarters in Indianapolis. He also worked for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indianapolis. Mr. Kleiman was a member of the American Legion in Rushville. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn J. (Starr) Kleiman of McCordsville; son, David J. (Mary) Kleiman of Indianapolis; daughter, Janis L. Kleiman of McCordsville; brothers, Richard Kleiman of New Palestine and John Kleiman of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Amanda G. Kleiman of Johnstown, Ohio and Amy E. Kleiman of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Armin “Red” and Edna B. (McPherson) Kleiman; daughter- in- law, Lori J. Kleiman and sister- in- law, Margaret “Peg” Kleiman.

Visitation will be from 2- 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014, also at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with military honors.
