Tommie “Tom” W. Ward, 72, of New Palestine, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. He was born on Nov. 12, 1941, in Columbus, N. C., the son of Lessie and Lula (Gause) Ward. Tom proudly served in the Army. While in the Army, he was a Medic while stationed in Germany. He married Treasa M. (Schenck) Ward in New Palestine.
He worked for Raypak Inc. in Ventura, Calif., as a Regional manager for 35 years. He later retired in 2007. Tom was a member of the VFW in California. He attended Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed fishing, woodworking, remodeling their home, going to the movies and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Treasa; children, Matthew Ward of Burbank, Calif. and Sandra Ward of Las Vegas; stepchildren, Sandra McLaren of Huntington Beach, Calif., Melody Mann of New Palestine, Alice Hensley of Greenfield, Jeff Barrett of Indianapolis; brother, Lloyd Ward; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. A funeral service will begin at 6 p.m., immediately following visitation, also at the mortuary. Pastor Jason Taylor will be officiating.
