John Lease, 81, of Elnora, Ind., passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at the IU Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born on Oct. 9, 1932, to Thomas J. & Mary L. Johnson Lease. John was married to Janet J. Smith on May 18, 1952.
John was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church and was a 50 year member of the Elnora Masonic Lodge #616 F & AM. He worked as a union plumber with Local 440 in Indianapolis, retiring in 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Jim (Joanna) Lease of Carmel and Joe Lease of Burns City; two daughters, Judi (Bruce) Dillon and JJ (Brian) Arney, both of Elnora; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Averil Peters of Tennessee and companion, Doris Ainscough.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Janet J. Lease; his parents; one son, Jerel Lease; two brothers and two sisters.
A gathering and visitation for John will be held from 2 until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the Plainville United Methodist Church. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 2 p.m.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the giver’s choice.
The family has entrusted all arrangements to the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton.
