Dennis Alton Buckley, 71, of New Palestine, passed away Saturday Jan. 11, 2014, at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehab, Greenfield, Ind. He was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Mason, Ky., he was the son of Hubert and Norma (Neal) Buckley.

Dennis graduated from New Palestine High School in 1960. Four years after graduation, he was drafted into the Army and served two years during the Vietnam War. Shortly after his discharge in 1966, Dennis was employed by Allison Transmission, Indianapolis, Indiana until his retirement in 1992.

Mr. Buckley was an active past commander of the American Legion Post in Morristown and a member of the VFW Post in Greenfield. He loved sports and was very involved in his local community sports programs for many years. Dennis also was an avid bowler.

Survivors include his mother, Norma Buckley of Englewood, Fla.; sister, Ruby (Aubrey) Williams of Port Charlotte, Fla.; nephew, Kevin (Terry) Williams of Port Charlotte, Fla.; niece, Rhonda Cope of North Port, Fla. and great- nephew, Joshua Williams of Concord, N.C. and several aunts and cousins from Ky.

Preceding him in death was his father, Hubert Buckley.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home Pasco Chapel 1780 West Main Street Greenfield, Ind., and the funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military rites provided by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard to follow at Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
