Eldon Lee Batz, 76, of Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Community Hospital North. He was born on Jan. 19, 1937, in Hendricks County, the son of Chester William and Lillian Elizabeth (Garner) Batz.

He graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1955. In 1960, Mr. Batz received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. Eldon served in the National Guard and was called up to help during the Berlin Wall crisis. He married Jean Marie (Bornemeier) Batz on July 13, 1963 in Batesville.

He worked for Thomson Consumer Electronics, formally RCA, as an Electrical Engineer for 37 years before retiring in 1997. Eldon was a member of Consumer Electronics Alumni, Indiana Daylily Iris Society and was also a former member of the New Palestine Lions Club. His interests and hobbies include traveling, camping, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 50 years, Jean; daughters, Tammy Cole of Indianapolis, Linda Batz of Merritt Island, Fla,. Debby Batz of Winter Garden, Fla.; sister, Carol (Dale) Dumbaugh of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Ryan and Jason Cole.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield with calling hours two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
