Vera Nancy Howell Shaw, 75, of Cambridge City, passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, in Greenfield.

She was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Connersville, the daughter of James and Anna (Galliher) Morris. She married Donald Howell on April 7, 1956, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 1980. On Sept. 17, 1991, she married Jerry Shaw, and he survives.

Vera graduated from Alquina High School in 1956, and received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Marian College. She formerly worked as a Registered Nurse at Hook's Rehab and Community East Hospital, and was Director of Nursing at Morristown Manor, retiring in 2007. Vera was past president of the American Nursing Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary District 10.

She loved spending time with her family and baking cookies with her grandchildren. Vera enjoyed gardening and her flowers.

She is also survived by her daughters, Rhonda Fansler of Shelbyville and Brenda (Brian) Short of Troy, Ill.; son, Donald Howell of Manilla; stepdaughter, Eva (Gary) Turner of Morristown; stepson, Justin (companion, Amy Judah) Shaw of Greenfield; brother, Richard (Ada) Morris of Morristown; sister, Gladys (Don) Glover of Richmond; grandchildren, Dale, Tyler, Amber, Jon Keith, Nicole, Amy, Jessica, Alex and Brandi; great-grandchildren, Gage, Payton, Aubrey, Brody, Aleah, Wyatt and Beckham; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jesse Morris Jr. and Albert Morris; sister, Bessie Hardin; and a son-in-law, Jon Fansler.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Robb Barlow officiating.
