Walter Eugene Scroggins
Walter Eugene Scroggins, 81, of New Palestine, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Bloomington, the son of Henry Arthur Scroggins and Phyllis Jean (Ooley) Simms.
He graduated from Unionville High School in 1948 and later earned an Associate’s Degree in Electronics. Mr. Scroggins served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Walter married Carole Jean (Wykoff) Scroggins on Nov. 17, 1956, in French Lick, Ind.
He worked for Naval Avionics as an Electronics Engineer for 35 years, before retiring in 1988. Walter was a member of the Moose Lodge #17. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting squirrel and rabbit, fishing, building homes and spending time with his dog, Baby.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carole Scroggins of Greenfield; children, Stephen Scroggins of Orleans, Ind., Jody Scroggins of Greenfield, Cynthia (Scott) Stauffer of New Palestine; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Huber of Connersville; cousins, Donnie Scroggins and Herbie Scroggins, both of Bloomington; sister-in-law, Jeanette Scroggins of Fortville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Alan Scroggins; and brother, Ray Scroggins.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, with the funeral service immediately following at 12 p.m., at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
