Robert W Ferling, 78, of Crawfordsville, died Thursday, Oct 31, 2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1935, in Danville , Ill., to the late Aaron and Helen Mapes Ferling Todd.

He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1953 and from Purdue University with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees.  He also attended and graduated from numerous military courses.

On Aug. 25, 1957, he married Barbara Morgan in New Ross Ind., and she survives.

After college, Bob worked for Producers Marketing Assn., Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and retired from Purdue University in 1998 after 40 years. He worked as a business officer and in 1987 took the position as Director of Materials Management and Distribution from which he retired.

He retired from the Indiana National Guard as a colonel, serving from 1952 to 1995.

He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Indiana National Guard Association, Indiana Field Artillery Association, Elks, American Legion, Crawfordsville Country Club, John Purdue Club, Purdue Ag Alumni Board, and Gulf Coast Banjo Society.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, winters in Florida , travel, playing the banjo and playing golf.

Surviving along with his wife are three children, Leesa Hilton (Steve), Lynne Boehm (Ted), and Scott Ferling (Cynthia).  Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Jeff Addison (Megan), Kari Sisk (Chad ), Morgan Boehm, Adam Boehm, Brian Boehm, Sarah Ferling, Stephanie Ferling, Shelby Ferling and great-granddaughter Willow Addison; siblings, Mary Helen Fry, Paul Todd, Tom Todd, Marilyn Nunan, Janet McCaskill and Linda Herendeen.

He was preceded in death by his step father, Oscar Todd; infant sister, Carolyn; and brother, Mark Todd.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, with funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Hunt and Son Funeral Home, Crawfordsville. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
