Carl F. Johnson, 98, of Indianapolis, passed away Oct. 31, 2013. He was born July 27, 1915, in Indianapolis to Frederick and Caroline Johnson.

Carl graduated from Manual High School in 1932 and attended Jordan College of Music at Butler University. He served in the Navy during WWII.

Carl played violin for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra from 1931 to 1952. Just prior to leaving the Symphony, he purchased Whiteland Orchard in 1951; he retired from the Orchard in 1975.

Carl was lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his children, Steven (Barbara) Johnson, Paul (Anita) Johnson, Kathleen (Robert) Wendt; sister, Marguerite (William) Nierman; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.

His wife, Irene Johnson, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4th at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 7031 S. East St., Indianapolis, with visitation there from 9 a.m. until the service time.
