Martha E. (Ford) Sanford, 79, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. She was born on Oct. 4, 1934, in Montpelier, as the daughter of Paul and Mabel (Schwarzkopf) Ford.
She was a member of Montpelier High School class of 1952. She married Charles “Charlie” Sanford on Dec. 24, 1951.
Martha worked as a secretary for New Palestine High School for 29 years before retiring in 1996. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she played the piano; she was also a member of Eden Order of Eastern Star. Martha enjoyed spending time with family and antiquing. She was known throughout the county as an exceptional cook.
She is survived by her husband, Charles “Charlie” Sanford of Greenfield; sons, Steve Sanford, Rod (Cyndy) Sanford both of Greenfield, and Brian (Diane) Sanford of Indianapolis; sisters, Janice Crider of New Castle and Mary Ann (Dick) Miller of Leo; eight grandchildren, Beth, Brett, Ryan, Michael, Mark, Katie, Joe, and Reggie; and 12 great-grandchildren, Kaylyn, Cole, Garyn, Gianna, Ashlyn, Carter, Tyler, Warren, Elsie, Noah, Owen, and Olivia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mabel Ford; and brother, Paul “Herbie” Ford, Jr.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd, at Erlewein Mortuary and Crematory in Greenfield. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24th, at 11 a.m. also at the mortuary. Reverend David Wise will be officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery.
