Jack D. Smith

Jack D. Smith, 82, of Knightstown, passed away Oct. 16, 2013, at his residence. He was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Brazil, Ind. to the late Earl and Lena (Lehman) Smith.

Jack retired from Chrysler Corporation following 22 years of service, where he worked in the tool and die department, and had previously worked at a machine shop for 12 years. He was a 1950 graduate from Brazil High School where he had the opportunity and enjoyed playing high school basketball. Jack was a veteran of the Marines where he served in the Korean War. He enjoyed working on home projects, refinishing furniture, playing poker, and yard work. Jack was a loving father who always made his children feel loved and cared for. He was also a loving grandfather that enjoyed teasing his grandchildren while spending quality time with them. Jack will be deeply missed by his family.

Survivors include his children, Anne Wade of Charlotte, N.C., Richard C. (Kristi) Smith of Knightstown, and Diane (Stan) McDaniel of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Eric Wade, Tyler McDaniel, Drew McDaniel, Jenna McDaniel, and Kyle McDaniel, all of Charlotte, N.C., and Patrick Smith of Invernes, Fla., Alex Smith of Indianapolis, Thomas Smith, Kira Smith, and Jackson Smith all of Knightstown; great-grandson, James McDaniel of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, James Smith of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn Smith; three brothers and five sisters.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Clearview Cemetery in Brazil, Ind.
