Philip C. Gardner

Philip C. Gardner, 84, a lifelong resident of Greenfield, was born into a new life Wednesday August 7, 2013, at Springhurst Health Campus, Greenfield. He was born June 16, 1929, in Greenfield, to the late Earl and Teresa M. (Case) Gardner.

He was a graduate of Greenfield High School, received his bachelor degree in engineering from Rose-Poly Tech and later attended the University of Illinois. He worked with the State of Indiana as a civil engineer and later was owner/partner of F & G Engineers in Indianapolis. He belonged to many professional organizations including the Electric League of Indiana, Indiana Society of Hospital Engineers, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, a member of the original planning committee for the building of the church and the school, member of the choir and the Holy Name Society. Philip was also a member of the Greenfield Elks Club, Greenfield Community Choir, and the local Theatre Group during the 70’s & 80’s.

He is survived by his wife, Jean (Padgett) Gardner of Knightstown, formerly of Greenfield; sons, Stephen Gardner of Bloomington, Dennis Gardner of Plainfield; daughters, Sally (Roger) Campbell of Knightstown, Jane (John) Constantine of Greenfield; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Maurice; and a sister, Vashti Kuntz.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday August 11, 2013, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday August 12, 2013, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Greenfield. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
