Edward A. Turner, Sr., 80, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at home. He was born on Aug. 3, 1932, in Indianapolis as the son of Claude B. and Edna (Showers) Turner. He graduated from Howe High School in 1950. Ed received a bachelor’s degree in Science Criminology from Indiana University in 1972; he was also a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy U.S. Department of Justice, Quantico, Va. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Ed married Shirley (Barnes) Turner on June 10, 1956.
Ed worked for Indianapolis Police Department as a Lieutenant Detective for 24 years before retiring in 1981; he was also the President/owner of Turner Security Service, Inc. for 20 years. Ed was a member of Indianapolis FOP and a Charter Member of Indiana Association Professional Investigators. He was a candidate for Sheriff in 2012 and supported the Tea Party.
Surviving him are his wife, Shirley Turner of Greenfield; children, Edward A. (Karen) Turner, Jr. of New Palestine, Bryan K. (Tina) Turner of Greenfield, Janice D. (Jack) Brown of Waldron, and Tom R. (Morgan Jenniges) Turner of Pendleton; sister, Linda (Ray) Roberts of New Palestine; seven grandchildren, Toria, Kailyn, Amber, Amanda, Michael, Miranda, and Tra; three step-grandchildren, David, Tiffany and Jason; five great-grandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; special sister-in-law, Patti Schooler of Mooresville; special brother-in-law, Randy Barnes of Indianapolis; also many nieces and nephews, and his three beloved dogs.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Claude and Edna Turner; and brother, John Turner.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held on Thursday, August 1, at 1:00 p.m. at Park Chapel Christian Church in Greenfield. Pastor Danny Curry and Pastor Mark Judy will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, with full military rites.
