Roy Dale Harris, 83, of Greenwood, Ind., passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin, Ind. He was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Columbus, Ind., to Roy and Ollie (Kirts) Harris.

He married Marjorie A. (Williams) Harris on Aug. 12, 1951, at East 10th Street United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, she survives. Roy Dale was married to Marjorie (Williams) Harris for 61 years. He was a 1947 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis and attended Butler University. He retired in 1993 from Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis after forty-one years of service where he had worked as a senior lab technician dealing with toxicology. He was a former Boy Scout Leader of Troop 245 in Greenwood, Ind. He also had been a coach in the Center Grove Little League. He was a fifty year member of Greenwood Masonic Lodge #514 where he had served as past master, a member of the Indianapolis Valley of The Scottish Rite, and Murat Shrine Temple in Indianapolis where he was past president of the Masters Club. He was a member of the Shrine Transportation Club where he was part of four hundred trips in the transportation of children to the Shriners Children’s Hospital’s in Cincinnati, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; and Lexington, Kentucky. He was presented Man of the Year Award in 2000 by the Murat Shrine Transportation Club and was a longtime and faithful member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church in Stones Crossing, Greenwood. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie A. (Williams) Harris of Greenwood; four sons, Michael D. (Audrey),Harris of Greenwood, Gary C. (Mary) Harris  of Morristown, Ind., Matthew R. Harris of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Terry L.  (Joanna) Harris of Sanford, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Charles Heath Harris of Morristown, Cody Alan Harris of Morristown, Christian Roy Harris of Kalamazoo, Mich., Kimberly Michele (Brandon) Lesher of Louisville, Ky., Lisa Nicole  (Andy) Bauermeister of Greenwood, Ashley Lynn Harris (Brian Eckert) of Greenwood, and Zada Helaine Harris of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and seven great-grandchildren, Dalton Lesher, Emma Lesher, Mackenzie Eckert, Aemelia Eckert, Garrett Bauermeister, Kate Bauermeister, and Nora Bauermeister.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James A. Harris and Richard F. Harris; two sisters, Margaret L. Smith and Martha Jane Harris; and three infant brothers.

Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 7th, 2013, at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton Street (US 31) in Franklin, Indiana. At 7 p.m. there will be a Masonic Service at the mortuary.

Reverend J. Wesley Hertel and Reverend Ben Greenbaum will conduct a service on Monday, July 8th, 2013, at Noon at Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 W. Stones Crossing Road in Greenwood, Indiana. Friends may also call on Monday, July 8th 2013, from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow the church service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana
