Kathleen Jeanette (McNew) Atkinson, 96, of Cumberland, Ind., passed away June 29, 2013. She was born May 5, 1917, in Knightstown, Ind., the daughter of Anna (Phelps) McNew and Harry Ivan McNew.
Kathleen was a graduate of Knightstown High School and Indiana Business College. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1979 after 10 years of service,in the secretarial positions. Kathleen was a Cub Scout Den Mother, she was a member of the Indianapolis Sailing Club, Eastern Star, Sigma Alpha Chi and Cumberland United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Roxanne (Patrick) Farley and Rebecca Jo Belmont Calberto; sons, David Vaughn II (Cindy) Atkinson and Harry E. (Cheryl) Atkinson; stepson, Charles Edwin (Jewel, deceased) Atkinson; grandchildren, Lizabeth Anne Franklin, Robert Wright, Natalie Martinez, Dwayne Bever Jr, Kira (Davis) Witte, David Vaugh Atkinson, Valorie Butler, Kristin Wright, Chelsea Atkinson, Ian Atkinson, Joshua Atkinson and Martin Atkinson; 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; 5 stepgrandchildren; and 6 great-stepgrandchildren.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin V. Atkinson; daughter, Patricia Kay Bever; brother, William Gurney McNew.
Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. July 2, 2013, at Hendryx Mortuary Cumberland Chapel and from 9 to 11 a.m. July 3, 2013, prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m.
