Wilma “Jean” (Paxton-Elliott) Edwards

Wilma “Jean” (Paxton-Elliott) Edwards, 87, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Hancock Regional Hospice in Greenfield. Born October 9, 1925, in Hancock County, she was the daughter of Paul and Ruth (Beaver) Paxton.

Jean graduated from McCordsville High School. She married Charles K. Elliott on May 15, 1943. He lost his life in December 1944, at the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. She then married Robert G. Edwards on December 8, 1946, and they enjoyed 64 years of farm life together. Mrs. Edwards worked as a unit secretary at Hancock Regional Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of Dizzy Dozen Bunco Club and a charter member of the Common Threads Quilting Guild. Jean won many quilting awards and honors. She was also a member of Mohawk United Methodist Church. Jean enjoyed her family, flowers, and quilting.

Survivors include her children, Diana (Dennis) Shock, Gary (Patty) Edwards, Bertie (Paul) Lappe, and Rick (Susan) Edwards; brothers, Raymond Paxton and William Paxton; sisters, Donna Mattox and Nila Jeffries; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death in 2010 by her husband, Robert.

Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2013, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013, also at the mortuary. Reverend Dennis Shock and Reverend Charles Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.
