Walter R. Foy, 90, of Muncie, passed away early Monday morning, Feb. 4, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Greenfield. Born June 16, 1922, in Scottsville, Ky., he was the son of the late Harley S. & Velma B. (Holder) Foy, when he was a three day old infant his family moved to the Muncie area, and he has resided here ever since.

Walter attended local schools; he had served in the Civil Air Patrol as a squadron commander for search and rescue missions for downed aircraft, and was an instructor for the Civil Defense Police. He owned and operated Foy’s Ambulance Service for thirteen years; he had served as a sales representative of farm supplies for fourteen years prior to his retirement in 1986.

He was a past member of the Muncie Lions Club, board member and one of the organizers of the South Muncie 5000 Kiwanis Club, member of Moose Lodge #33. Walter served as a deputy on the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department as well as a deputy for the Delaware County Coroner’s Office.

Walter is survived by his four children, Brian L. Foy of Pendleton, Bruce R. Foy of Indianapolis, Brett A. (Laura) Foy of McCordsville, and Pamela A. Foy (Lonn S.) Sorrell of Bowling Green, Ky.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Foy.

A Funeral Service of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8th, 2013, at at Garden View Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Goth celebrant. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7th, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Delaware County, with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
