Donald Henry Steffen, 88, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Kindred Healthcare, Greenfield.

He was born June 17, 1924 in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late Raymond A. and Freda (Neish) Steffen.

He received his Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University and retired in 1980 from the Plant Layout Department as an Industrial Engineer for the Eli Lilly Greenfield Plant Laboratory. Donald flew a transport plane in the US Air Force during WW II that dropped paratroopers on D-Day and was a member of the Greenfield American Legion Post 119. He was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church of Greenfield and was an avid golfer that was Club Champion at both Greenfield Country Club and Pleasant Run Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Catherine (Leyrer) Steffen of Greenfield; son, Thomas W. (Alice) Steffen of Indianapolis; daughters, Donna Rae (Kurt) Schlicht of Indianapolis, Linda (Fred) Parish of New Palestine, Sandra Sue Alexander of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel and Bryan Alexander, Robert Parish, April Weatherford, Jamie Fields, Amy Sturges, Kimberly Self-McArthur, Michelle Self-Ballard, Ryan Steffen and Andrew Steffen.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., on Tuesday Feb. 5, 2013, at St. James Lutheran Church, Greenfield. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Greenfield. Visitation will be Tuesday from Noon until time of service at the church.

Stillinger Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
