Betty A Sparks, 84, of Shirley, passed away Jan. 21, 2013, at Hancock Regional Medical Center. She was born, May 26, 1928, in New Castle to the late Lindsa R. and Ruth Polk.
She graduated from New Castle High School in 1946. She married Charles Junior Sparks on Dec. 21, 1946, and resided on the family farm near Shirley until her recent hospitalization.
She was an active partner in the farming operation with Charles, who preceded her in death in 1977. She was an active volunteer with 4-H programs and was a dedicated volunteer with the Henry County RSVP organization, with over 33 years of continuous service as a volunteer at Henry County hospital.
She was a member of Shirley Christian Church and Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and several other offices.
She was an avid birdwatcher and over the course of her life, traveled to all 50 states.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Janet Gray) of Shirley, Linda (Rich) Larson of Mesa, Ariz., Pat (Deanna McCord) of Shirley, Susan Sparks of Shirley and Sam (Kathy Williams) of Shirley; as well as 9 grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Ryan McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation Hospice Care.
