Richard A. Moore, 73, of Carthage, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Aug. 1, 1939, in Carthage, the son of Robert S. and Mary Elizabeth (Gatewood) Moore.

He was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge for 47 years and was a birth rite Quaker. He owned and operated Carthage Tractor and Implement from 1976-1996, a John Deere Dealership that was started by his grandfather. He also enjoyed gardening.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, of 52 years, Carol (McRoberts) Moore of Carthage; daughter, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Butler of Carthage; son, Robert Moore of Carthage; grandchildren, Carly Butler of Carthage, Jace Butler of New Castle, Samantha Moore of Shelbyville, Alex Moore of Shelbyville; great- grandchildren, Stella Jett Butler of Carthage, Alexia Crysten Butler of New Castle; a sister, Anita Harrelson of Carthage; an uncle, William O. Gatewood of Carthage; one nephew and two nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Crysten Butler-Williams; and great- grandson, Jason “Jett” Williams.

Service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Friends may call from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., prior to the service. Masonic rites will be conducted at 2:00 PM by the Lewisville/Carthage Masonic Lodge.
