Ernest “Butch” Alan Alder, 51, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on Feb. 24, 1961, in Richmond, Ind., and he was the son of Ernie H. and Betty (Lewis) Alder.

He graduated from Tri High School in 1979 and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Building Construction Management from Purdue University in 1984. While at Purdue, Butch played football for five years, made the Academic All-Big Ten Football Team for two years, made the All-Big Ten Football Team his senior year, and was a Noble E. Kizer Award winner for two years.

Butch married Carla A. Hickman on March 3, 1984, in Cambridge City.  He formerly worked for Glenroy Construction Company and Summit Construction Company. He was currently working for Pepper Construction Company as a Group Leader on the New Wishard Hospital Construction Project. He was a former member of the Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, and currently attended Park Chapel Christian Church where he was a committee member for the Resonate college small group. He was also a member of the John Purdue Club and a former member of the Knightstown Optimist Club.

Surviving Butch are his wife, Carla Alder of Greenfield; son, Michael E. (Amye) Alder of Noblesville; daughter, Lauren N. (fiancée, Bryce Miller) Alder of Greenfield; parents, Ernie and Betty Alder of Greenfield; and sister, Barbara J. Alder of Anderson.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. McKenzie Rd., Greenfield, IN. 46140.  Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, also at the church. Pastor Mark Adcock and Pastor Danny Curry will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.
