Ruth V. Slifer, 87, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She was born May 25, 1925, in Franklin Co., and she was the daughter of Charles A. and Ada (Proctor) Tillison. She married John Slifer on Aug. 5, 1950, and he preceded her in death on June 1, 2002.

Ruth had been past president of the Shelby County Women Bowling Association, where she bowled on all leagues.  She bowled for 45 years. She was the last living charter member of the Fountaintown Community Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, Dorcas class of  Fountaintown United Methodist Church, Van Buren Home Economic Club, a euchre club and bunko club. Ruth had worked at the Bluebird Restaurant, Moon Lite Drive In and the Nelson Canning Co.  She had also worked on the Van Buren Election Board. She enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, reading and traveling.

Survivors include her nieces, Connie E. (R. Elmer) Carlton and Linda (Anthony) Mummert, both of Morristown, Anita G. (Earl) Miller of Cincinnati and Kathy J. Hoffman of Arlington; nephews, Michael D. (Emma) Slifer of San Antonio and Roger A. Slifer of Santa Monica, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Robert Slifer and Max Romack, both of Morristown; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Hazel M. Slifer and Rosella Romack.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at the funeral home, with Rev. Fred Hickman officiating. Interment will be in Fountaintown Cemetery.
