Shirley Ann (Slagle) Richardson, 79, Indianapolis, died Oct. 23, 2012.  Shirley was born Jan. 29, 1933, in Indianapolis.

She was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School in 1950, and then attended St. Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Ind. Shirley was proud of her Woods involvement and was active in the groundbreaking of the Guerin Library. Before becoming a wife and mother, Shirley was a deputy at the Women’s Correctional Facility in Indianapolis.

Shirley married Robert K. Richardson in 1952 and celebrated a wonderful 55 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2008. She is best known as a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend. Her mission in life was her family. She enjoyed watching all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in as many activities as she could whether a concert, tennis match, basketball game, football game or school function. Everyone knew Ma, Grandma, or GG was in the audience.

Her hobbies included bridge, golf, sewing, and entertaining family and friends. Shirley was an avid bridge player and spent many a Wednesday with the ladies at Hillcrest Country Club in fierce competition. Learning the game of golf in her 40’s, Shirley wasn’t concerned about her score as much as she enjoyed spending that time with her friends.

During her years of attending St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Shirley volunteered her time and efforts in preparing altar linens and vestments.

She shared a passion for travel with her family and favorite spots included the Outer Banks of North Carolina where she would enjoy carefree summers with family and friends on the sandy beaches. Shirley also enjoyed a trip oversees with her husband Bob to Italy where they toured throughout the country and made a special trip to the Vatican.

Her gift was her ability to touch each person’s life that she met through her selfless and caring personality. Shirley never met a stranger. Her compassionate nature for others was never-ending. Whether a neighbor, a close friend or a family member, Shirley was always there to help. It was truly her gift.

She had a continuous and great devotion for her family. Shirley is survived by her children, R.
