Mary Hawley Haley Mills Madigan, 86, passed away peacefully Oct. 17, 2012, at her home in Indianapolis. She was born April 11, 1926, in Ecclesfield, England to Thomas Matthew and Elsie Elizabeth (Woodhead) Hawley.

During WWII, she met and married a young American Soldier, John E. Haley. She bravely left her homeland and family and sailed on the Queen Mary as an English War Bride. She and John were marrried 28 years until his death in 1973. She married Linus A. (Bud) Mills and spent 12 years traveling and enjoying retirement together until his death in 1993. She was later married to Edward J. Madigan until his death in 2011.

Mary retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Fortville Chapter #149, a member of the Ladies of the Nile and a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. She also had worked closely with Jobs Daughters. Mary led a full life, was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed her flower gardens, camping, canoeing, boating, and running sport car rallies in her younger years, but was happiest spending time with her family and friends. Never meeting a stranger, Mary made friends everywhere as she traveled the United States and across Europe. Her laughter and her English accent will be sadly missed by so many.

Mary is survived by her sons, John Michael (Lois) Haley and S. Patrick (Nancy) Haley of Greenfield;  a stepson, Steve (Oneida) Mills of Louisville Ky.; a stepdaughter, Trudy D. (Fernando) Ruiz of Moreno Valley, Calif.; four grandsons: Michael S. (Cindy) Haley of Newland, N.C., John T. Haley of Greenfield, Shawn P. (Christina) Haley of Lafayette; granddaughter, Samantha C.
