Darl D. Schaekel, 71, of Shelbyville, passed away Sept. 10, 2012, at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Nov. 17, 1940, in Arlington, to the late Ivan C. and L. Kathryn (Macy) Schaekel. Darl married Wilda Lee "Willie" McCleery of Shelbyville on Oct. 25, 1991, and she survives.

Darl graduated from Greenfield High School in 1958. He was the owner of On the Way Mini Mart in Manilla, Ind. for 23 years. He lived on a small lake and had a boat and loved to fish, he could fish off the bank every night, he especially enjoyed fishing with his brother-in-law Steve, in Michigan for Salmon and in Wilmington, N.C., for Walleye. Darl enjoyed spending time in his Gazebo watching the birds, if he was not in the house doing paper work or watching the Colts, he could be found in the Gazebo, he had a heater in the winter, and a fan for the a summer.

Besides his wife, other survivors include sons, Gregory D. "Greg"  (Diane) Schaekel of Ashburn, Va., and Charles Russell "Rusty" (Adrienne) Schaekel of Greenfield; daughter, Kathy Schaekel (Guy) Titus of Greenfield; sisters, Verla Doughty, Marita Beaty, Judy (Wendell) Stuck; brother, Randy Schaekel; grandchildren, Erika N. Titus, Taylor A. Titus, Josiah D. Schaekel, Ivan C. Schaekel, Lenna M. Schaekel; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Max Beaty.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville officiated by Chaplain Dean DeVries with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012. Burial will take place at the Arlington East Hill Cemetery, Arlington, Ind.
