Charles Omer Cooley, 83, of Greenfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday evening, August 27th, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born July 23rd, 1929 in Holton, IN., and was the son of the late Rev. Laurence Irvin & Ethel Mildred (Cleek) Cooley.

Charles moved to the Greenfield area as a young man, when his father the late Rev. Laurence Cooley assumed the pastorate of Brown’s Chapel Church in Greenfield in 1943. He was a graduate of Charlottesville High School. He retired in 1988, after 38 years of service with Eli Lilly Company, in the Animal Nutrition Research Department in Greenfield. Eli Lilly awarded Charles an Honorary PhD for his dedication to Animal Nutrition Research. He loved and enjoyed being with his family, especially fishing with his grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his loving and caring wife of 64 years, Mary Louise (Newton) Cooley, whom he married June 6th, 1948 at Brown’s Chapel; Children: Charlasu (Susie) Hunt (Dan), Newton Cooley (Janet), Maralasu (Mesu) Andrews (Roy). Grandchildren: Graham Hunt (Tabby), Gretchen Dismore, Jennifer Wetzel (Adam), Julia Chapman (Justin), Judy Hunt, Ginger Hunt, Grant Hunt (Tara), Jedidiah Hunt, Joy Hunt, Johanna Hunt, Heidi Reiste (Thad), Joshua Cooley (Jennifer), Laura Suzanne (Brandon), Hans Cooley (Lori), Joni Reeves (Joe), Bruce Cooley (Brett), Amanda Thomas, John Fowler (Tricia), Katrina Bonham (Jason), Emily King (Brad). Great Grandchildren: RoseAnna, Roxanna, Roanna, Remington, Rahanna, RyleeAnn, and ReeseAnn Hunt; Hunter and Julia Dismore; Chase, Jameson, and Hanna Joy Chapman; William Hunt; Brooke, Nicholas and Tyler; Caitlyn, Aidan, and Rebecca Cooley; Timothy, Elijah, Abigail, Isaiah, Grace, Isabella, Taylor, Cassidy and Dani; Addyson Cooley; Ruth Reeves; Ben, Zach, Christin, Aaron, Ben, Simi; Emilie, Audrey, and Piper Bonham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Linda LeAnne Cooley; great-grandson, Ryerton David Hunt; great-granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Harris.

Funeral Services for Charles will be held, Friday, August 31st, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Brown’s Chapel Church, 994 North 600 East, Greenfield, with Pastor Steve Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, south of Charlottesville on 800 North and 900 West. Friends and Family may call, Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Memorial Contributions can be made to Brown’s Chapel Church, with envelopes provided at the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garden View Funeral Home in Muncie.
