Richard “Dick” George Merlau, 73, of Greenfield, passed away on June 24, 2012. Born on December 26, 1938, in Greenfield, he was the son of Charles William, Sr. and Thelma (Sherwood) Merlau.

He graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1957. Dick was a lifetime farmer with his father and brothers. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. He was a devoted father, neighbor, and friend to everyone. He loved family time at home and enjoyed playing the guitar and doing Sudoku puzzles.

Surviving him are his children, Diane Merlau (Lonnie) Burklow of New Palestine and Kathy Merlau (Gary) Rhyne of Broad Ripple; siblings, Patricia Trout of Greenfield, Charles (Judi) Merlau, Jr. of Greenfield, and Raymond (Donna) Merlau of Greenfield; companion and caregiver, Sue Engbrecht of Greenfield; grandchildren, Taylor, Patrick, Olivia, and Max; great-granddaughter, Selina; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother-in-law, William Trout II; nephew, Rodney Allen Merlau; and niece, Pamela Kay Trout.

Visitation will be on from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 29, 2012, at the mortuary. Burial will take place at Philadelphia Cemetery.
