John R. Koons, age 84, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012, at his New Palestine residence. The son of Walter J. and Mary H. (Eberhardt) Koons, John was born on June 26, 1927, in Indianapolis.
John graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He served in the Army during WW II, earning the WW II Victory Ribbon. A chemist, John retired in 1989 from Eli Lilly and Company, after 30 years of service. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Chemical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. (Brandt) Koons of New Palestine; children, Katherine Morrison (Brett) of Greenfield, Christopher Koons (Jackie) of Indianapolis and Rebecca Paul (Jack) of New Palestine; brothers, Robert Koons (Mary Ann) and Kenneth Koons, both of Indianapolis; six grandsons and two granddaughters.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, 6513 West 300 South, New Palestine, IN 46163.
