Robert “Bob” E. Whitaker, 82, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on Nov. 29, 1929, in Greenfield, he was the son of Lloyd and Vonda (Barnard) Whitaker.

He graduated from Maxwell High School and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He married Patricia A. (Quackenbush) Whitaker in May of 1955.

Bob worked for Delco Remy in quality control for over 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post #119 and the VFW in Greenfield; as well as the Greenfield Conservation Club, UAW, and the Hancock Masonic Lodge.

Surviving him are his son, BruceWhitaker and daughter-in-law, Cindy (Fields) Whitaker of Bloomington; siblings, June Wetzel of Anderson, Nedra Jones of Jupiter, Florida, and Bruce Whitaker of McCordsville; two grandchildren, Wendy Whaley of Bloomington, and Lori Whitaker of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Khloe Whaley; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd and Vonda; and wife, Patricia Whitaker.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 14, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will follow immediately after. Burial, with full military rites, will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
