Opal Pirtle, 83, of Greenfield, passed away on Feb. 27, 2012, at Hancock Regional Hospice. Born on Sept. 22, 1928, in Dekalb County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Taylor and Dola (West) Cope.

Opal married Dean Pirtle on Oct. 14, 1945, in Rossville, Georgia. She worked at Western Electric for 7 years then spent the rest of her marriage working as a homemaker.

Opal attended East Rawles Church of God in Indianapolis. She accepted Christ at a young age and spent her life helping others. Other than her love of God, her greatest passion was her family.

Surviving her are her husband, Dean Pirtle of Greenfield; daughter, Rhonda (C. Michael) Richardson of Greenfield; siblings, Aaron (Joyce) Cope of McMinville, Tennessee, Robbie Robinson of Lebanon, Tennessee, Nina (Jimmy) Gentry of Indianapolis, and Linda (Edward) Calvert of Greenfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings, Elvie Reeder, Arbis Cope, Ruby Cope, and Joyce Dean.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 2, 2012, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Reverend Jerry Qualls will be officiating. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.
