Lloyud E Manuel, 97, of Greenfield, passed away on Jan. 16, 2012. He was born on Feb. 14, 1914, to Demus E. and Matilda (Thomplins) Manuel.

He was a 1933 graduate of Vevay High School. He married Nelda Grace Flynn on May 23, l942. Mr. Manuel served in the U.S. Navy with the C/B'S and was wounded on April 6, 1944, and received a Purple Heart. He and his wife owned Manuel's Market in Carthage for 20 years and he was also employed by R. E. M. C. He was a member of the East Street Christian Church in Carthage, a 50 year member of the Carthage Lions Club, Knightstown American Legion, Disabled American Vets and Order of the Purple Heart

Survivors include his wife, Nelda Manuel; sons, Philip L. (Patricia) Manuel of Indianapolis, and Thomas Manuel of Honolulu; daughter, Mrs. Gayle (Lottie Jo) Marlman of Borden, Ind., Nancy Wilson of N.C.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents; son; brother; and two sisters.

Friends may call from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. The service will be conducted at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial will be made in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage.
