Fred O. Keen, age 69, of Greenfield, passed away on Dec. 31, 2011, in Greenfield. Born on Aug. 9, 1942, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Albert A. and Alice (Pruett) Keen.

Fred married Nancy Stevens on Oct. 16, 1965, and owned Linde Cleaners in Greenfield. He also worked part time for the Indiana Pacers for over 40 years and for the Indianapolis Indians for over 15 years. Fred was past President of the Greenfield Sertoma Club and remained an active member. He was also the President of the Midwest Dry Cleaner’s Association and previously received the Sagamore of the Wabash from Governor Frank O’Bannon.

Fred loved his community and was very active in the Riley Festival. He served as General Chairman and was a 15-year Board member for the Riley Festival. He served on the Board of Directors, President, Vice President for ARC and had headed efforts to do fundraising for the Boys and Girls Club in Greenfield, having served as Chairperson. Mr. Keen was also a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and had helped raise money for their activity center. He was a member of the Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation Board and a graduate of the Hancock County Leadership training program. Additionally, he was Past President and Board member of the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce and he received the President’s award with the Chamber. Mr. Keen was involved with Santa’s Helpers and former Hancock County Chairperson for the United Way.

Surviving him are his wife, Nancy Stevens Keen of Greenfield; son, Jon Keen of Greenfield; and sister, Barbara Anderson of Birmingham, Ala.; two aunts; two nephews; and one niece.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
