Florence “Flossie” A. (Houchin) Purcell, age 88, a lifelong resident of Hancock County, peacefully passed from this life at the Hospice Unit at Hancock Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011. Florence was the daughter of Arthur and Jane “Pirie” Houchin; she was born on July 1, 1923 in Monticello, Ind. She married Carl E. Purcell on November 2, 1941.

 Florence was a partner in farming with her husband, a home maker who loved sewing, needlepoint, quilting and crocheting. She loved feeding and watching the birds and playing with her beloved dog Pixie and cat Fancy. She enjoyed collecting red birds and Longaberger baskets. She was a member of the Shiloh Christian Church for 53 years, Shiloh’s Ladies aide and was very active in many aspects of the church.

 Surviving her are her husband, Carl Purcell; daughters, Carolyn (Richard) Matlock of Morristown, Kathryn (Van) Mitchell of Greenfield, Donna (Carroll) Reddick of Carthage, and Diann (Randy) Huffman of Greenfield; grandchildren, Debbie Chrisman, Dan Matlock, Kristina (Stan) Wine, Kelly (Phil Kalbaugh) Blessinger, Michele (Steve) Wheatley, Chad Hollenbaugh, Tresha Reddick, and Jennifer Huffman; great-grandchildren, Meggan Eaton, Jessica and Hanna Blessinger, Patrick and Courtney Wheatley, Abby, Emerson and Carter Hollenbaugh, and Laura Willard; and great great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jason Eaton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert, Arthur Jr. and James David Houchin; and sister, Elsie Lambert.

 Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Pastor Russell Jarvis and Fred Girdwood will be officiating. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
