Forest Dale Summers, age 81, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011. Born on Feb., 15, 1930, in Washington, Ind., he was the son of Cecil and Susie (Layne) Summers.

Forest graduated from Worthington High School in 1948 and attended Indiana University. He married Joyce White on Dec. 30, 1951, in Bloomfield, Ind. He worked for AT&T as an engineer for over forty years before retiring. Mr. Summers was also a United States Navy veteran who served during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Summers was a member of Greenfield Christian Church for thirty eight years. He was also a member of the Greenfield Masonic Lodge for fifty two years and a member of the Greenfield American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, golf, spending time with his family, and watching sports.

Surviving him are his wife, Joyce Summers of Greenfield; son, Dr. Michael (Sheila) Summers of Greenfield; daughters, Cindi Shultz of Greenfield, Susie Levering of Greenfield, and Sandy (John) Dinkens of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Robert Rodocker; ten grandchildren, Craig, Curt, Sarah, Kate, Sam, Meg, Rachel, Mary, Abby, and Allie; and five great-grandchildren, Emily, Ethan, Esai, Gavin, and Brylee.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sisters, Nina Thomas and Erma Rodocker.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield with a Masonic Service taking place at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Greenfield Christian Church. Dr. Brian Nelson and Pastor John Davis will be officiating. Local pianist Brad Herndon will be playing the piano during the service. Burial with full military rites will take place at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
